Hi, Iām Cheryl. I really really wish I could sing but alas, I cannot. Now that that’s out of the way… what I CAN do is draw a little and paint some, and one day I’ll learn to sculpt.
I have identified as an artist roughly since age 12, either writing poetry and short stories or drawing and painting. Even before then I played piano for a bit but decided early on that it was not my forte, much to my great auntās chagrin, as she paid for my lessons. For many years I would switch between my two loves, writing/drawing depending on what was moving me at the time until at some point, I was all in tune my visual art self. So basically, Iāve been painting for almost 50 years yet I still have a lot to learn and practice to better my craft. As far as my literary side, well, my blog āDrips and Spattersā is as close as Iāve been for a very long time until 2024 when I published my first book which celebrates my two loves.
About those 50 years ā I wish I could say that those years were all filled with studio time and being able to support myself and my family with the sales of my art. Alas, most of those years were spent in the military, in school, working a day job ā one after another ā and raising a family. Still, while doing all of that, I managed to paint on nights and weekends and short vacations. I owned an art gallery for a brief few years and worked with over 35 wonderful artists, some of whom experienced their first sales of their work with me. Iāve exhibited in various venues and served on occasion as a panel member for grant reviews and now I paint full time, on my own schedule, finally.
